UK’s Top Architects to Speak at Canary Wharf

Some of the UK’s most influential architects head to Canary Wharf for the London Festival of Architecture 2010.

The free lecture and debate headline a diverse series of performances, exhibitions, sculpture, installations, film screenings and workshops at Canary Wharf between 24-28 June, all on the theme of ‘The Welcoming City.’

Urban planner and architect Sir Terry Farrell , highly respected for transforming London’s skyline and the banks of the Thames, delivers the keynote address East of the Tower at Clifford Chance auditorium on Thursday, 24 June. Farrell discusses his vision of architecture and planning issues east of the Tower of London, informed by his role as Government champion for Gateway to London and a member of the Greater London Design Advisory panel.

On Monday, 28 June, design luminaries Will Alsop , Mike Davies , Dan Ringelstein and Stephen Bayley debate What makes Cities Sing? also at Clifford Chance. Well-known for their forthright views and first-class designs, the panel give their take on the links and ideas that make cities great, and how London can implement them.

Other highlights include Ignacio Acosta’s Mapping the Zone, a photographic investigation of architectural configurations at Canary Wharf exhibited in the lobby of One Canada Square and Architecture and Design Summer Walks, exploring the extraordinary architectural past, present and future of the Canary Wharf area.
