Description

Major Responsibilities

1. Manage the works of Trade Contractors as dictated by the size of the project.

2. Where required by the size of the project or requirements of the Client and/or his consultants and as dictated by the Senior Construction Manager - M&E act as Principal Contact for a specific package contractor project wide, liaising closely with fellow Construction Managers and Assistant Construction Managers.

3. Discharge responsibilities for Health and Safety as set out in the Canary Wharf Group Health Safety and Welfare manual also the Canary Wharf Group Construction Health and Safety Plan both in respect of the package and integration of the overall project.

4. As delegated by the Senior Construction Manager, ensure the trade contractors are carrying out their work in accordance with the Contract, including approved method statements and other approved documents relating to Health & Safety, environmental issues and quality.

5. Facilitate the work of the contractors, so far as possible, by ensuring the necessary logistic arrangements are set up and operating.

6. Assist the Senior Construction Manager - M&E in the management of the interface between contractors.

7. Assist the Cost Managers in recording the progress of work and valuation.

8. Carry out inspections with the contractor to verify that work is in accordance with the approved standards and submit such records to the Senior Construction Manager. Invite other parties, (Local Authority, Consultants, Clients etc) as requested, to participate in inspections.

9. Conduct or participate in site meetings as requested and provide written records.

10. Manage Trade Contractor Management both on site and head office.

11. Chair weekly Trade Contractor Co-ordination/ Programme.

12. Liaise with Cost Managers to manage budget / variations.

13. Ensure Health and Safety maintained on site and produce Weekly Safety Report.

14. Liaise with other Construction Mangers (M&E) to co-ordinate Services aspect.

15. Liaise with Construction Managers to produce Construction Programmes.

16. Obtain construction programme from planner and produce Short Term Construction Programmes for Services aspects.

17. Liaise with Consultants and Project Design Managers to obtain/ agree design information.

18. Responsible for project delivery within their areas.  Liaise with other Construction Managers to ensure an efficient project wide use of resources.

19. Issue a weekly report to Senior Construction Manager - M&E.

20. Ensure all Method Statements, Risk Assessment and COSHH data sheets are issued to the Senior Construction Manager as the Project progresses and prior to works taking place.

21. Liaise with Senior Construction Manager - M&E regarding on-site services installation.

22. Manage Services contractors.

23. Ensure works carried out safely and in accordance with Method Statements.

24. Liaise with shell and core services team to ensure co-ordination.

25. Ensure all services installations are correctly co-ordinated and installed in accordance with design.

26. Ensure services commissioning carried out correctly on site.

27. Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by Senior Management.

 

Working Relationships

1. Build up a good working relationship with the rest of the project team. This includes CWCL project personnel, trade contractors and consultants. The Construction Manager should also have a good understanding of the roles these people hold within a project.

2. Reports to the Senior Construction Manager with regard to construction activities.

3. Works with the:

3.1 Construction Managers - M&E and the Project Manager - M&E with regard to the supervision of work and progress.

3.2 Health and Safety Manager with regard to Health and Safety issues.

3.3 Logistics Co-ordinator with regard to the logistical requirements of the project.

3.4 CWCL Quality Manager with regard to the quality of the work.

3.5 Delegate work to Assistant Construction Managers.

 

Health, Safety and Welfare Responsibilities

1. All staff are required to fulfil their legal duty to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts and omissions, and to follow all guidance and instructions given in this respect. Environmental Responsibilities

1. All staff are required to follow the CWG environmental policies for minimisation of waste and effective energy management as defined in the CWG Environmental Manual and Company Environmental Plans.

 

Quality Management Responsibilities

All staff are required to comply with CWG Quality Management System requirements detailed within Company Quality Manual, Policies and to ensure that all Procedures; Plans and Forms within InfoBase are effectively implemented to meet the set ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management Standard.

 

Person Specification

1. Significant previous experience in managing or supervising site construction work, preferably on large scale projects dealing with highly serviced buildings is essential.

2. Relevant trade qualifications or academic qualification is essential.

3. Ability to influence and work with others with a positive, cooperative, and problem solving mindset is essential.

4. A reasonable degree of IT literacy is essential.

5. A reasonable level of numeracy and literacy is essential.
